
Buckingham Field Airport (Lehigh Acres West) has been in existence since 1942 the airport is located 7 miles East of Fort Myers, Florida.
Some history on the airfield:
Construction started in 1942 at a cost of 10 million on a total of 7000 acres. It was used by the US Army / Navy at that time and housed over 16,000 men.
At the time it was used as a flexible training base.By the end of WW2 the airfield consisted of a total of six concrete runways (the largest was 5,800 long).
