Davis
Islands, located in Tampa, is a man made
island built in the 1920's.
Tampa native and developer D. P. Davis
ambitiously created Davis Islands with 4
of the largest dredging machines
available at the time working 24 hours a
day. Ultimately, Davis Islands was
turned into 834 acres of prime real
estate and at completion the initial
lots were completely sold out in 3
hours. Later more fill was added
to the south end of the island
increasing it to 875 acres to
accommodate the Peter O. Knight Airport.
Today, Davis Islands is a mix of
residential and retail areas.
